Dahlia 2009 Pinot Noir Reserve
My first pinot noir purchase was at the local Bevmo store and was on a whim. I perused the aisles looking for something interesting and relatively inexpensive. I found a beautiful simple bottle on sale for $20 dollars. The comments said strawberries and 93 point rating by Wilfred Wong. I was sold. I shared the bottle with a friend who was surprised by my choice and enjoyed it alot. So much that we drank 4 more bottles in the next month. I was so proud to have found a gem among the stockpile of generic standards.
Easy to drink, full of bright strawberries and rasberries with a slight note of sweet oak.

Dinner With Carrie...
Melville 2008 Carrie Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir
I ordered a glass of this wine for the first time when dining at the Los Olivos Cafe for my birthday. I had parpadelle pasta with radish and peas, but my friend's chicken marsala was the star of the night. The wine was the highlight for me personally. The next day we went to Melville's Vineyard and got a bottle, but alas, the bottle didn't seem as delicious as the first glass. Could of been a bad bottle or we left it too warm on the wine rack before opening it.
Dark fruits of blackberry and cherry infused with notes of chocolate and coffee. Would recommend this vineyard, all the wines we tasted were wonderful.

Happy Birthday To Me...
Shea Wine Cellars Homer 2008 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
I had been looking for this wine to try as my first high end pinot noir and had a difficult time finding one. One day though I took a trip to Tustin with a friend to Total Wine. Low and behold, there it was among the rows of pinot in the largest warehouse of wine I'd ever been to. I decided I had to get it. I was anxious since it was $75 bucks and it was only the second bottle of pinot I'd ever bought. But heck, it was a month from my birthday and I wanted to get something special for myself. So there I was, in line buying two mini bottles of Godiva chocolate liqueur, a bottle of Italian prosecco, and my Shea. One month later I opened it on a Thursday night with my friend.
A deep ruby red wine, with dark blackberry and plum notes. I could taste a hint of smokiness and spice to round out the bold fruit flavors. We finished the bottle and enjoyed every sip. I will be celebrating my birthdays from now on with my Shea.

Elegant Wine for the Senses...
June 17th, 2010
Adelsheim 2008 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
We had our first taste of this wine at dinner at Fraiche in Culver City California for a friend's birthday. Paired with the most amazing pasta I've ever experienced. Three words: short rib agnolotti. I will be coming back to Fraiche for every and any occasion to have this wine and this dish.
Dark fruit flavors of sour cherries and raspberries with a hint of spice. Refined and robust with a smooth finish.
